Now is the time to get involved!

by Katie Denny on

This is an important week for all Greenpointers, who will have an opportunity to let their voices be heard in an historic decision.

By now you’ve heard about the $19 million awarded to the Greenpoint community. This Thursday (November 20) & Saturday (November 22), you will be able to submit your recommendations for the most significant environmental improvement projects awarded with that money, called the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund – or GCEF.

As of now, 13 projects are eligible and competing for funds.  If you are a Greenpoint resident – living in zip code 11222 – you should attend one of three GCEF “preferencing” events where you can select your top choices. This open process is modeled after New York City’s Participatory Budgeting program, now entering its fourth year, which allows community members to become decision makers for community investments.

How to participate:

Get to know the 13 proposed projects.
The GCEF has posted information about the competing projects:

Go to one of the “preferencing” sites to tell the GCEF which projects are important to you.
