Fall Pie Contest and More This Week at McCarren Park-Greenpoint Greenmarket

by Stephen Wade on

After two stormy weekends at Greenpoint-McCarren Park, we’re lookin forward to fall sunshine and pie at the Greenmarket! If participating in this contest, please bring your pie by the market information booth before 1130, after which samples of the various apple confections will be available for sampling. 3 judges will be out amongst the crowd making decisions on best classic, more innovative, and best overall pie! Fruit should of course be from the greenmarket, with an emphasis on fall apples, some of the best for classic pie-making!

We still haven’t had a hard frost yet in some spaces, so there are still tomatoes, peppers, and tastes of a distant summer still at market. With halloween around the corner, there are plenty of decorative gourds and pumpkins at market for decorating and placing around the house, and plenty of fall flavors like plums, squash, and sweet potatoes, along with the panopoly of apples and pears making their way into the market.

A reminder: the Greenpoint-McCarren Park market will be operating YEAR-ROUND, same hours, same location, same services, minus only a few of the farms who are with us during the summer season. We want to let it be known that WE DO NOT CLOSE for the winter, short of highly detrimental weather preventing farmers coming to market or blocking market setup. So always be sure to check here, or our facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/BrooklynGreenmarkets) for any announcements about market closures in the winter season.
