[UPDATED] American Playground Takes Another Hit

by GWAPP on

It appears that most of the American playground equipment is boarded up while the building does window installation. The claim is it’s going take a month. Why wasn’t this done before peak playground season?

And what about that torn up tree in front?

There’s also a leaky pipe underground, which is why the water has been turned off.

American Playground sure needs some love. Speak up for AP at tonight’s Community Board 1 Public Hearing!

Updated 5/22/2014:

“The Parks Department is doing everything it can to get a contract in place to repair the broken water main at American Playground. We are hopeful that repairs could happen before it gets too hot this year but at the moment we do not have a timeline for repair,” says Ed Janoff, Executive Director, Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn.

The Greenpoint Waterfront Association for Parks & Planning, Inc. ("GWAPP") is a not-for-profit group, 501(c)(3), comprised of individuals, community organizations, religious institutions, and concerned citizens from the Greenpoint-Williamsburg communities dedicated to the development of parks and public access on the Greenpoint waterfront.

…but they had no problem pushing through the permit to allow for the repairs of the adjacent building, closing off 15% of the playground.

The understanding is that OSA represents real estate interests, but don’t do so at the expense of the community.

    Absolute jokers.
