Wednesday: GWAPP Info Session for New Board Members & Volunteersby on
Are you a North Brooklyn resident? Do you care about the environment; about parks and open spaces; and/or the toxic legacy of Greenpoint’s industrial past? Are you interested in making a meaningful contribution to your neighborhood? If yes, then we want to talk to you!
Join the Greenpoint Waterfront Association for Parks & Planning (GWAPP) at 7pm on Wednesday, March 26 in the Community Room at the Bushwick Inlet Park building on North 9th St and Kent Ave in Greenpoint.
GWAPP is looking for new board members as well as volunteers to work with us on a range of activities. There’s something for everyone! This is an exciting time to join a local, active community organization. In 2013, GWAPP:
- Helped establish the 61 Franklin Street community garden,
- Had two free tree giveaways in partnership with New York Restoration Project, TownSquare, and North Brooklyn Farms,
- Led a community meeting on the ULURP process in partnership with NAG and CUP,
- Held weeding days at Bushwick Inlet Park,
- and more!
In 2014, we’re looking to keep the momentum moving! GWAPP won a small grant from the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund, and we’re looking for people to help us implement our proposal. We also need volunteers to help maintain our website and social media accounts, attend and report on local meetings, and write grants and fundraise.
If you’re already familiar with the local issues that North Brooklyn faces, and are motivated to make a difference (and have the time to do so), consider joining the GWAPP board. We’ll discuss what that entails, how to apply, how to volunteer and more at the meeting.
If you can’t attend the meeting but still want to get involved, or have any questions before or after the meeting, contact us at: email@example.com.
