This Saturday at Greenpoint/McCarren Park: Summer Storytime with Brooklyn Public Library!

by Pamela Boyle on

Next week is National Farmers Market week and we are getting the party started at Greenpoint/McCarren Park Greenmarket this Saturday! A few exciting things we have in store for you:

  • Starting this Saturday, we will begin a frequent shopper program. This is a 12-week program, and starting week 6, you will get a raffle ticket to enter to win a $50 shopping spree at Greenmarket! Come to the info tent for more information.
  • Also beginning this Saturday is a program with the Brooklyn Public Library: Summer Storytime! Every Saturday in August (weather permitting), we will gather at 10:30am behind the market information tent and a librarian from either the Leonard Street Branch or the Greenpoint Branch will be there to read a story to the kids at the market. We will provide a blanket, but space is limited so feel free to bring a towel, etc. for your child to sit on. We will also have a small market snack for the kids.
  • Musical guest Holler will be at market on Saturday as well.

A native New Yorker, Pam Boyle spent most of her college and post-college years pursuing a career in translation. The Spanish language, plus a growing interest to learn more about farming, led her to a family-run farm in the mountains of Costa Rica where she worked and learned the basics of maintaing a small-scale sustainable farm. Once back in Brooklyn, she was eager to learn more about the local farming communities in the tri-state area and to try out some of the farming techniques in her rooftop vegetable garden. She is very excited to be working with Greenmarkets, spending her Saturdays at Grand Army Plaza with the farmers and helping the community gain access to fresh, local food.
