Important Meeting: CB1 Transportation Meeting Reviewing Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway

by GWAPP on

We want to remind everyone to mark their calendars and attend a very important Community Board 1 meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012. The Transportation Committee will be meeting for a presentation on the schematics of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway plan to reconfigure West Street between Eagle and Quay Streets. The plan includes:

  • Two-way, Class 1, separated bike path
  • Planted buffer between lanes
  • Speed tables
  • Improved pavement markers at intersections
  • Relocation of existing above ground utilities to underground.

We think this is a great way to improve access to the waterfront in North Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Greenway Initiative has already connected 5 miles of Brooklyn waterfront and wants to expand to 14 miles, the stretch along West St. is a part of that plan. Ultimately, the plan would run from Greenpoint to Bay Ridge. It’s a great way for residents (and tourists) to take in the scenic beauty of the waterfront.

This plan is being developed by NYC Department of Design (DDC), NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) and Brooklyn Greenway Initiative. The presenter scheduled is: Ms. Linda Reardon, RBA Group, a consultant firm retained by DDC for this project.
