OSA Community Committee Meeting 12/3

by GWAPP on

The Community Committee of the Open Space Alliance (OSA) for North Brooklyn will hold its next meeting on Monday, December 3 at 6:30pm at the McCarren Park Play Center, 766 Lorimer Street. The committee, comprised of representatives from various community parks organizations, will advise OSA’s Board of Directors on community needs and parks issues in the boundaries of Community Board 1.

OSA Logo OSA is our community’s parks conservancy—a public/private partnership between the community (which can raise money privately) and the NYC Parks Department—advocating for the improvement and development of parks in Greenpoint and Williamsburg. Unlike most parks conservancies, such as the Central Park Conservancy or Prospect Park Alliance, which focus on a specific park space, OSA covers more than 120 different parks and playgrounds from Flushing Avenue to the Newtown Creek. It can be a very challenging mission alone. OSA’s Community Committee, which gives community members the forum to share ideas about and tackle issues concerning our parks, is integral in helping OSA determine how and where to effectively direct its limited resources to the most important aspects of parks, wherever they are in the neighborhood.

GWAPP is proud to have helped seed and support Friends Of groups attached to many parks and encourages anyone who is interested in making our parks better to get involved with the OSA Community Committee.
